- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 4 slices of rye bread
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined, then form into four equal patties.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the onions from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the beef patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty to melt.
- While the patties are cooking, prepare the secret sauce by mixing together the mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and paprika in a small bowl.
- To assemble the patty melts, spread a generous amount of the secret sauce on one side of each slice of rye bread. Place a patty with melted cheese on top of the sauce, followed by a portion of the caramelized onions. Top with another slice of bread, sauce side down.
- In the same skillet, melt the remaining tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Grill the assembled sandwiches for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
- For a spicy kick, add a few slices of jalapeños to the patty melts.
- Try using different types of cheese, such as cheddar or pepper jack, for a unique flavor twist.
