These Pioneer Woman–inspired Apple Dumplings are a rich, comforting dessert of tender apples wrapped in crescent dough, baked in a creamy cinnamon-sugar butter sauce with a splash of soda for caramelized magic.

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  • Granny Smith apples: 2, peeled and sliced into 8 wedges each
  • Crescent roll dough: 2 cans (8 oz each)
  • Butter: ½ cup (1 stick), melted
  • Granulated sugar: ¾ cup
  • Brown sugar: ½ cup
  • Cinnamon: 1 tsp
  • Nutmeg: ¼ tsp
  • Vanilla extract: ½ tsp
  • Heavy cream: ⅓ cup
  • Lemon-lime soda (Sprite/7Up): ¾ cup

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Wrap each apple slice in a crescent roll triangle and place in the dish, seam-side down.
  3. Whisk melted butter, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Stir in heavy cream.
  4. Pour the mixture evenly over dumplings. Then pour soda around the edges (not directly on top).
  5. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until golden and bubbling.
  6. Let cool slightly. Serve warm with the creamy sauce spooned over the top.

Notes

  • Use tart apples for best flavor contrast.
  • Do not use diet soda — it won’t caramelize properly.
  • For extra richness, add a splash of bourbon or maple syrup to the sauce.
